Yep, I had to read this story twice to believe it…
Blockbuster you are officially broken.
Who ever came up with this gem should be fired… Immediately.
Wayne, look what happened to your great original idea. Now, it fits perfectly with Waste Management. In fact, you could use the same name for both your “Blockbuster” businesses.
Did Blockbuster even bother to ask customers about this?
Now, if you’re running a small business, don’t EVER make it hard for your clients to do business with you to serve your own pathetic needs.
Is that so hard to figure out?
Desperate companies do desperate marketing.
Desperate doesn’t work. It makes you look like a loser.

I totally agree with you on this one. When I saw that Blockbuster was basically putting the “IN” back into “Inconvenient,” I knew that somewhere there was a debate on how to save a retail business that was becoming irrelevant. The new Netflix streaming device is a step in the right direction, although it is still somewhat lacking in quality and available content.

Hi Walt — good post. It shows that even large, well-funded companies can misfire. The only way I would see a kiosk machine working is… if everyone carried PDA’s that could download movies, and if they were in places that were convenient (like convenience stores), AND if it was less expensive than regular rentals, AND if the player device at home (your TV) could easily play what had been downloaded, AND if everyone understood how all of this works. Whoops… that was the point. What the h— is that guy thinking?- Scott

This is not that bad of an idea if, and this is a big “IF” these machines are available at every 7 Eleven and Mcdonalds.BB closed the closest locations to my home, and a 3 mile drive is through Queens, NY traffic is too much. I would walk to the corner Mcd’s for a movie though.Hey, wait a minute, I hear Mcdonald’s already has movie kiosks in certain parts of the country.
