Ok, so yesterday…(on a rare 60 plus degree sunny winter day in SE PA)

I spent over 50 precious minutes viewing Don Crowther’s Stompernet SMART Social Marketing Strategy Guide Video Promo.

Yep, it’s slick… but I gotta agree with Tom Deeter….

What’s up with Don’s computer-generated sounding voice, all the clip-art and Smiley face thingys… and way too long to get to the meat?

If you like cute, slick videos… and have 50 minutes to blow… watch Don’s video.

Now, if you wanna save 40 minutes and discover the one gem stuffed deep in Don’s video, check out Tom Deeter’s post and video of a smart Social Marketing Tactic: Scribd.

This morning, I checked out Scribd.

Set up my Profile…

Uploaded a Document (a little personal productivity “Gift” from me that you’ll want to grab and use)

And… started getting almost Instant Targeted Traffic.

Now, with 6 Action Items crossed-off my list today…

It’s time to hit some golf balls.

    Walt,

Great post and thanks for the mention. One tip to share with your readers… Scribd is super vigilant about the content collection of each member.

Be sure to have a variety of docs inside you profile, from marketing stuff to knitting and beyond.

This will keep you in the good graces of the Scribd police.

    Cheers!
    Tom

    Hey Jollyjo,

Well… it is simple. (not sure about easy?)

FOCUS on actually accomplishing 6 ACTION items each day… ACTION items that grow your business.

    Then play golf.

This year, I’ve committed to Chet Holmes approach of “pigheaded determination and discipline” as he describes in The Ultimate Sales Machine.

Thanks for reading and your sharing your thoughts,

    Walt

You are right, it’s the “accomplishing” I missed.

    That’s always the difficult part…

Walter! Are you stirring the pot again?  It seems to me that Scribd is not really the spot for the type of information that you might want to publicize. What are your traffic numbers so far for this site?  Is it so compelling that you will continue regardless of the uptight reaction to your buddies description of how to start a Scribd  account?I am very curious Walt and don’t forget to hittem straight!dean

    dean,

Stirring the pot? Who me? Nope… just sharing a marketing tool with my readers.

I believe Scribd is a solid tool for sharing your own original content provided you aren’t concerned that others take it and share it , and use it freely. That’s something I’m been thinking about the last couple days. Do I really care if my readers take, use, repost, even claim my content? Not really… It spreads the message… and there’s plenty more inside my head.

I disagree with Tom Deeter about  posting a variety of content. Why in the hell would I spend any time writing and posting my own original knitting article when my marketing position is to be known and seen as a marketing expert. It would water down my personal brand. That’s just dumb!

My take the whole Scibd thing: copyright.. If it’s not yours, don’t share it as yours.Scribd is ruthless about cracking down on this…and rightly so. They obviously have a touch of legal exposure regarding copyright. Post solid original content. That’s a basic. This should apply not only at Scribd, but on your own blog as well.

As far as traffic, I got 7 unique visitors within one hour of posting my article. 3 of those signed up for my free report. Boom… instant targeted traffic. Not bad for the 15 minutes it took me to put up my Scribd profile and post a document. Like everything, you gotta test it and evaluate if it’s worth the time and effort for your business.

Always keeping it in the short grass,

    Walt

    dean,

I just went back to Tom’s post and read Jared’s comment.

Wow…seems that in addition to copyright, Scribd is rather uptight about useless spam content.

Rightly so… but if they clamp down too hard, not much of a social marketing tool.

    Humm…

It looks like Scribd can take capital, but can they… will they… foster capitalism?
